History of Monduli CDTI

Monduli Community Development Training Institute is in Monduli District. It is among 7 Districts of the Arusha region; and it is found about 42.5 km from Arusha City Center. The
Institute has long history started in 1977/78 as a training center for livestock keepers offering short courses trainings with capacity of 150 to 200. The establishment of the center by then was an initiative of the former Prime Minister Honorable the Late Edward Moringe Sokoine to ensure that pastoralists community are imparted with skills for proper livestock keeping.
It was later realized that, the skills offered to pastoralists were not sufficient to enhance positive change to their career development; thus the need of introducing other related skills such as entrepreneurship, agricultural skills, administration skills, bookkeeping and management aroused.
In order to carter this need, the center was changed to be the Training for Rural Development Center (TRDC) whereby additional required skills were introduced and enhanced in 1983/84.This expand the stakeholders’ coverage to both pastoralists and non-pastoralists communities. As a result, the authoritative mandate of the center was changed from the Ministry of Livestock Development, to the Ministry of Community Development, Children and Women affairs, which later was known to be The Ministry of Community Development, Gender and Children.
Thereafter, the Ministry of Community Development Gender and Children changed the purpose of the center from TRDC to Folk Development College (FDC) in 2001. The main objective of FDC was to offer vocational training courses on various fields such as Cookery, Agriculture and Livestock Keeping, Welding, Motor Vehicle Mechanics, Masonry, Buildings Electrical Installation and Tailoring. These courses were officiated in 2002 with the enrolment of 402 students. Thereafter, the Ministry of Community Development Gender and Children later changed the purpose of the Center due to the high demand of Community Development Practitioners in the Country. Thus, following those changes, Monduli Community Development Training Institute was established to offer Community Development course leading to the Award of Diploma in Community Development from 2008.
Currently, the Institute has been offering Basic Technician Certificate in Community Development (NTA level 4), Technician Certificate in Community Development (NTA level 5
and Ordinary Diploma in Community Development (NTA level 6) with the total enrolment of about 800 students annually.
